    本句使用了倒装语序，这给找句子主干带来了困难。首先从语法层面看，appear 为不及物动词，接动词时必须用 to 连接，惯用法为：it appears/appeared …，另外再从语义层面看，就可以判断出这句话的语序是 “It appears to desire to display the result of the misery through which it has passed and is passing， said one early naturalist。这样一看，句子的主干就清晰了，即 one early naturalist said something。
