Will luxuries and conveniences of contemporary life prevent people from developing into truly strong and independent individuals?It is true that modern life has some negative effect on the formation of people's strong and independent characteristic.However,since there are no less strong and independent individuals in comtemporary life than that in the past,we can not come to the conclusion that luxuries and conveniences will prevent people from becoming strong.
People who agree with the opinion may consider the fact that students in rural areas often appear more independent and tough than those live in cities as the evidence to support their idea.Admittedly,because in the rural areas where there are less modern technological innovations accessible to the students ,they tend to concentrate more attention on their studies.Also,because their parents are always busy with farm work,they have to develop the ability of taking care of themselves,even their younger sisters.What's more,they may face more difficulties in their growth since they are born with less oppotunities and only by working harder than others can they achieve their goals.Though these views are true,they just overlook the advantages of luxuries and conveniences in developing people's characteristic.
Firstly,because of the convenient tools in helping students' study and employees' work,the competition in contemporary life become increasing severe.Since these instrument narrow the gap of people's abilities.For example,people who are good at calculating may stand out in rural areas,where they can only rely on themselves to do calculation.In contrast,in cities,because of the proliferation of calculators and computers helping with repeating works,no one cares if you can perform excellent in calculation.
Sencondly,as the improvement in technology,children in modern life have to face more lures than children in the past or in rural areas.Computers games,TV sets as well as playboys are all intent to abstract children's attention from study.Also,with the proliferation of media and information,there are images and films of violation and pornography,which is serious test to children.Only children with strong characteristic and the ability to distinguish between right and wrong can avoid making serious mistakes.
Finally,because the conveniences technology brings to contemporary life,it is more accessible to know celebraties' experience of being successible.A great number of students and adults can buy books of celebraties or watching their interviews on TV or online.By communicating with their sole and great characteristic,it is more likely that people will develop strong and independent individuals by following them.
In sum,every coin has two sides.Luxuries and conveniences bring us both advantages and disadvantages in the formation of our strong and independent characteristics.Whether contempory life has positive effects in our characteristics is only determined by how we make use of these luxuries and conveniences.
