According
to a report, although the 9-year compulsory education is available for all
children living in China, some parents choose to teach their children by
themselves for the very reason that they consider parents the best teacher for
their own kids. We have to admit that parents teaching their children bring
more or less some advantages, or they would not do so. But if I had a kid, I
would rather hire a teacher to instruct my baby since I suppose parents are far
not the best teacher. At least a professional trained teacher is a better
choice.



The primary factor I would like to say is the time. I don't mean that parents
perhaps do not have sufficient time to teach. Many parents do have the ability
to stay at home whole day. However, parents probably are not able to spend a
whole coherent time concentrating on teaching as they may be bothered by many sorts
of things such as working, cooking, taking care of other family members, etc.
Parents may have to answer a phone call. Or they may have to prepare for a dinner.
Anyway, it is difficult for parents to keep the teaching coherent. On the other
hand, for example at school, when taught by fulltime teacher, the teaching
process will seldom be disturbed. During each class, the learners can simply
focus on what they learn instead of waiting for parents dealing with things irrelevant
to study.



Another factor, which I consider is more important, is the proficiency.
Apparently teaching is not the professional work to most parents so that they
are probably not expert in teaching even they long to do what they can to
teach. In this case, a professional trained teacher is much more reliable since
the teacher is aware of how to teach one reasonable. Our life is filled with
such example. When parents are teaching their kids playing tennis, maybe they
play well and read books on teaching tennis, what they teach is nothing more
than their own experience on tennis since parents may be skilled in playing,
but not proficient in teaching. Now the advantages of a professional trained
teacher become evident. The teacher can tell the kids there are some simple
steps to have the text book forehand as the teacher has already generalize the
every technique so that learners are able to master it and develop in a
efficient way. What's more, professional teachers can not only teach the
learners some knowledge but the method to learn. So we can imagine a player
after mastered tennis is able to play other similar sport in a short time just
with the method to learn.



Let's look at those parents. Frankly speaking, that parents act as teacher
really have some advantage which normal professional teacher cannot go with.
The most remarkable factor is that the relationship between parents and their
kids is already established, which more or less make the communication and
teaching process easier than with a strange teacher. Besides, due to the time
that parents and their children stay for is longer than with a teacher,
children are able to learn and discuss some interesting issue with 'teacher'
all the time.



Considering all the factors stated above, we could easily draw the conclusion
that parents are not the best teachers because professional trained teachers
make better effect in children's study although both of the two choices have
their own advantages.
