I essentially agree with the speaker's assertion that using public resources to support the arts,regardless of people's suffering from hungry,unemployment and the lack of survival skills,is inappropriate.However,the author overlooks the benefits arts bring to us,and public support to the arts is also of great importance.In my view,governments may establish a balance relationship between subsidizing the arts and resolving the immediate social problems.
Government should support the arts,primarily because it is a significant part of human culture-since they display beauty around the world and move people both emotionally and spiritually.Irrespective of different nationalities,races,religions,the real masterpieces can evoke similar feelings and enjoyments in people's hearts.It is especially ture when it comes to music.The fate,a famous work of Beethoven,for its exciting melody,can arouse people to fight against the difficulties.Moreover,the arts server as a role of history records-when we read the book JANE-by the famous female writer Jane Austen,we can learn from Jane about the independent spirit and courage to pursue life.Furthermore,art is the invitation to become part of something larger part than us.It brings us more close to our humanity and enriches our knowledge about the world around us.Therefore,the arts should be promoted for its merits hold so many virtus that make us more connected to the society,we should promote it to enrich our life and culture.
However,the support of the arts cannot risk the basic need of human race.If the immediate problems is of great importance to the human survival,we should put more intensly focus on them.Otherwise,if the human race extinct,the merits of the spiritual wealth will be meaningless.For example,social issues such as the 2008 econmic crisis have higher preference.The globle finacial problems began in the real estate of the US,then quikly spread to the whole world,leading to serious social problems,such as unemployment,the increased crime rate,and so forth.If the government do not take measures to imitage such issues,the safety and stability of the society might be at risk. In sum,the arts serve as the source of pleasures and the beauty decorated our life,and make ourselves more close to humanity. Because of its wounderful merits,public resources should be allocated to subsidize the arts.But if the very survival of human race is endangered,we should give the immediate problem priority.
