Educational institutions have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed. 
What we are discussing here is whether educational institutions should dissuade students from persuing the inquiry in which students are unlikely to succeed. I, in this discussion, tend to agree with the assertion made there.
For one thing, students who major in field of study in which they are unlikely to succeed might lose enthusiam when they face difficulties, because they know it is hard for them to perform well in the study. After losing enthusiam, these student will definitely cut down on the study time  they intend to devote, thus are more likely to be obscure in this field, which end up with a vicious circle between poor performance and less enthuisam. If teachers in school disregard this situation, there will be a great loss for teacher and students in time and effort after several years. For example, a student who is definitely not good at solving math problems would be afraid to tackle physics problems and physics experienment. If teachers accord him with opportunity to work in labotary work, both teacher and the student will not benefit from it.
Moreoever, the goal of college education is to provide society with students who can perform their work well. As we all know, jobs in modern society are highly specialized, so students just need to focus on their advantages. This decision will magnify the advantage and allow students to finish work efficiently,which gurantee a desirable performance in work place. If students pay less time on their advantage, their shining point will become obscure, and they can not stand out as a consequence.
Admittedly, there are several pragmatic problems when applying this view. For one thing, young students are in their early stage of mental development,which means that educational institutions might not identify the advantage and disadvantage of every student although they are more experienced in such area
