From the ancient times till now, teachers are regarded as respected persons in society. Nowadays, faculty in college are asked to spend time working outside the academic world in profession relevant to the courses they teach, which I generally agree and find it possible to be discussed.
 
First it is necessary for the instructors to jump out of the academic world that they're familiar with.We may just take a male teacher of literature for example. If he takes part in some history or culture conferences, he may discuss with the historians and scholars to know more background details of writers, which will finally be beneficial to his college teaching. Since he could tell more historical stories or anecdotes to his students, his courses are surely turning funny and charming so that more and more students may find it interesting to learn literature.So it is with other certain subjects. If teachers are willing to introduce knowledge from other fields, they can make it more easily for their students to accept and understand what they say.
 
Second, there will be many negative effects if the faculty do not contact with other fields. The most obvious one is the risk of losing the attention of students and society. One instructor who narrowly concentrates on his or her own academic world will be deserted by society someday. And students will not be attracted to attend a rigid professor's courses. Like a philosophy professor who never read newspaper or talk about current affairs, his thoughts will be likely to remain just in his own realm of ideology and his philosophy will never restrict and direct people's behavior or do good to social development.
 
However, merely asking all faculty to spend time outside their academic world is not fair and reasonable. After all, each instructor has his own arrangement of teaching and researching, which should be the most suitable and rational for himself. Indiscrimination will occupy their time of own duty or leisure time, which may affect their work and life.
 I accede the decision has both positive and negative effect on the quality of instruction at the college and university level,as I demonstrate before,and I tend to bolster that it is more beneficial than harmful in most cases that will help improve the education of university.
