It is true that sometimes we would get panic if the artificial instruments fail to work, however, I disagree with the statement that human increasingly depending on technology will inevitably undermine the thinking skill, for the reason that advanced technology remains an effective indication that human's faculty of independent thinking is constantly increasing.
Technology's revolutionary impacts on our modern life are taking place anywhere, whether at work or at home. Making mundane problems obslete, the improvement of technology allows us take care of more complex quandaries with unfettered thinking: wireless network provided by satellites orbiting the earth permits long distance phone call and even vedio conferences across oceans, which makes communication and idea exchange increadibly convenient; we can browse worldwide information on the Internet and critically accept views from various media resources. Also, architects have professional programs on their computer to sovle intricate equations, which saves them a lot of time to examine the their design.
Despite the extent to which people rely on technological devices for living and working, there is no way that those devices could think creatively and critically like a person. Since computers only process orders in a fixed pattern which technocrats programmed, we continue to find better ways to improve on the technique and to make them meet our need. Consider the invention of Facebook and the Facetime application. People are able to connect to Internet, but Mark Zuckerburg thinks the Internet should connect everyone, and he establish a whole new social network and turns this billion dollars idea into a fortune. On the other hand, despite widespread use of video call, techocrats in the Apple company contrive the Facetime to make video call free of charge. Moreover, regardless of technology, philosophers always deepen understanding through rumination on the mundane affair surrounding us.
It is true that when technological intruments fail, we are in worse shape. However, it is the exact consideration that forces us to use faculties of creative and independent thinking which marks human beings to preclude and sovle those inevitable problems. For example, the controversal arguments concerning clone and embryo engineering has been always had its day among public and scientists who hold divergent reasonings. Besides, all the nations are taking pains to find out a solution to cope with global warming which is caused by massive carbon dioxide emission due to cars and factories. Politicians are also dealing with the quandary of reconcile financial improvement and environmental performance.
In sum, although the improvement of technology comes with inherent problems that need to be fixed, there is no justification to be cynical about human progress. We should embrace the fact that constant advancement of technology does not tend to weaken people's capacity, but more and more lies on our creativity and critical thinking.
