This issue mainly talk about whether the study of history changes the illusion that there is a big difference between people living now and people who lived in earlier times. I concede that it could be useful of history study on this topic since the history is a recurrent of the past, we could know what the life looked like in the earlier time and will be easier to compare the past with present times. However, whether the study of history can modify the illusion that “people who are living in the present times and people who lived in the past are significantly different” need to be considered. First of all, there are many differences between now and the past times and we could illustrate it on different circumstances. Thinking about the lifestyles, in the present times, we have automobiles as transformation tools, machines help us to produce things, mansions to live or work in; yet in the earlier times, probably hundreds years ago, people did everything by themselves, or at most depended on animals or simple tools, they did not have any automatic machines, they even did not have electricity. Turning to the study styles, we have so many technologies, such as internets and emails, which help us to get access to lots of materials online. We can get what we need without going out.  Also, we can use eBooks instead of paper editions. Comparing with the past, they needed to use paper books and get it by themselves in the library or even needed to copy the books by themselves. What about at work? We use emails or faxes to transfer documents, but in the ancient times, they used doves to send messages. On the contrast, aren’t there any similar aspects between them？ The answer must be yes. Let’s remind the Maslow’s theory “hierarchy of needs”. He discussed about people’s needs on different stages. The most basic need is physical need: people need food and clothes to ensure their fundamental of life. After achieved the most basic need, they started to think about work, love, friends, self-esteem, and finally reached the highest stage: self-realization. In the past, men studied hard and tried hard to pass the harsh tests in order to be a “government official”. This might be the best way to secure theirs and their families’ living conditions and prestige. In current times, people study hard and work hard. Some of them want to be governors, some of them want to be businessmen/businesswomen, and some want to be doctors. Etc. No matter what they want to be, the most significant reason is to guarantee a better life and to realise dreams. In conclusion, the study of history helps us to know the past better and learn from the past. There are similarities and differences between the past and the present, the most important is to learn the good and rectify the bad, and then use the developed technologies to make our life better.
