本题改编自老GRE的ISSUE94"Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated"。题目讨论大学生学习范围的问题,题目认为应当要求学生学习本专业以外的其他课程。在分析的过程中,可以从本专业学科和其他学科知识对学生的生活学习和工作的正负面影响、不同知识之间的相互作用、教育培养学生的目标和需求、不同领域不同环境下分情况讨论等方面展开思考。
1. 请列举你的专业课程,以及你选择的非本专业领域的其他课程,并分析这些可课程对你的意义。
回答: 我的课程主要是关于电气类的工程学科。但是在这以外呢,计算机编程、高等数学、概率论在后期的研究中其实都有很多应用。在电学中,计算往往要解很复杂的微积分方程,借助计算机编程,可以将问题简化。。。。。。
2. 从大学生现在以及以后的学习、工作、生活的各种需求来看,哪些能力或者知识是他们需要具备的?这些知识和能力需要通过怎样的教育形式来获得?
回答: 基本的写作能力,很多理工类的学生,写作能力较差,但是在未来,做研究的同学一定要撰写实验报告,研究论文,写作表达不清是很受限制的。工作的同学也可能有很多工作总结,年度报告,都需要写作的能力。学校应该开设一些科技类的写作指导课程。。。。。
3. 仅学习自己专业领域的课程对大学生来说是否足够?如果是,请说明理由;如果不是,这样的行为对大学生的发展有哪些局限性?
回答: 是不足够的。我有一个例子,在ABB实习的时候,有一个学姐说,在外资企业工作,企业会给你很多机会去尝试自己的能力,有些完全是专业外的另一个领域。她自己就从做技术,一路升职,转向做营销,这是她以前完全不懂的,但是通过后期的学习,她胜任了新的工作,事业更上一层。如果再一开始就有宽泛的基础,她可能会尝试更多。。。。
4. 自己专业领域外的其他课程可以带给大学生哪些影响?(可从正面影响、负面影响以及直接和间接影响来考虑)
回答: 以经济为例。很多学生觉的自己学的是工科,可是实际上,经济在学科中也有很大的作用。比如说,我们是学电学,理论上与经济是没有关系的,但是一个学生如果具备经济学的基础,就可以去研究,电力市场上电价的调控等等问题。实际上,这本身就是一个很重要的工作,在电力行业中。。。。
5. 社会如何定义“人才”的标准?大学教育应该如何设置课程才能更好地培养“人才”?请举例说明。
回答: 社会对于人才,最简单的标准就是在岗位上是不是能最大的发挥作用。学校应该给予学生尝试的机会,更多的学修课程,更广泛的概述类课程,让学生了解自己的兴趣,发展的方向。人才应该是全面的。。。。。

As Durant, an american historian, puts it, "education is a progressive discovery of out ignorance." The University is just the place where courage students to prompt themselves ceaselessly. But the term "prompt" does not refer to only study on their major. Just the reserve, the university should not cultivate the students to become merely some well-educated component of the society, yet give them more chance to discover their potential in different fields and turn to a versatile people. The knowledge and skill in other fields would not only bring students a brand new world and horizon, but also have a significant influence in their future life,study and career.    A broad knowledge would give students opportunity succeeding in other areas and hence make more odds fro students' success. The instance acquiring a great achievement in other areas rather the major is not uncommon. Mark Zuckerberg, the originator of Facebook, was major in psychology, yet minor in the computer science. But as we all known, he displayed a keen interesting and amazing talent in the latter. He combined his friends construct the famous web,Facebook, and become a very young billionaire. Another example is the outstanding British writer, William Somerset Maugham. When he was a college student, he first studied the medicine science, since his father wanted his to be a surgeon. Nevertheless, he finally chose the path of literary creation. Since the major is the only way to go to success, why would universities inhibit their students's success in different areas.    From another angle, even if new knowledge belonging to other fields do not lead student success in these field, students still could benefit from these lore in their major. Taking my own experience as a example, i am major in electric engineering, and the basic knowledge we should learn is about power generation, power distribution, high voltage, electromagnetism and so on. Yet actually our curriculum includes advanced mathematics, computer science and even economics. Since none of us want to become a banker, are these course superfluous? Of course the answer is no. If we want to solve a complicate electromagnetic equations, the solid advanced mathematical skill is necessary; if we want to stimulate a power system, the computer knowledge is indispensable; and if we expect to predict the change in power market, we should be not lack of the assistant from economics. Nowadays, disciplines are not independent as before, and they often interplay with each other. Thus, if a student want become more professional in his major, he should not neglect the lore in other relevant ares.     Except of the lore in disciplines, the skill in art also let students life take an entire new look. Einstan is the most illustrious physicist as well as a proficient violinist. And he said it himself that the performance bring him a lot of confidence when he was young. Art would let everyone's life away from drab life. What's more, students also could take a participant in some campus communities, practicing his or her ability in social life and working with a team.     Of course, we could not deny that for most people the major is important, and it would decide ones career even life. But we still should encourage student learn more in other field, for no one know what his destination.
