Some people believe that a society must bloom at the cost of putting its overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens,others believe that a society? well-being must depend on the general welfare of all its members.The former claim relies on the belief that there exists an overall success which is independent of its members.However,in my view,this overall success do not exist,society is a constituency of individuals and the standard for
prosperity of a society must only be connected with the well being of
its individual citizens.
A truly great nation must have powerful comprehensive strengths.And not only are powerful comprehensive strengths reflected in the achievements of rulers and elites,but also in the well-being of its individual citizens.This kind of nation or society are supported by its people and have true cohesions.It could be considered as truly powerful and blooming.For example,the government of United States have obtained splendid achievements in economy,culture and military.At the same time,the U.S. government also stress on the general welfare of its people and guarantee human rights and democracy.All above allow the society of America to thrive.On the contrary,the U.S.S.R sacrificed well-beings of its people for alleged overall success.Eventually the U.S.S.R are deserted by its people and crumbled.Nevertheless,we fails to draw the conclusion that a society must put its own overall success before the well-being of its individual citizens based on the terms ？overall success？. This conclusion rests on an assumption that there exists an overall social interest which is independent of its members.However,facts tell us this assumption is invalidated.Throughout human history,nearly all the autocracies and despotisms put interests of some particular group or rulers before well-beings of all society members,under the guise of alleged overall success of a society.It is just the reason for wars,revolutions and social upheavals occurred again and again in human history.For instance,Nazi Germany,ruled by Adolf Hitler and Nazi Party,launched the second World War under the banner of the overall success of the German people,resulting in the death of millions of people and disasters.Similarly,North Korea,dominated by the Kim family,maintain its authoritarian domination under the mask of the alleged overall success of the communist,causing millions of people dying of starvation each year.In fact,the key issue is not to distinguish between where is overall success of a society and where is the well-being of individuals.This distinction is actually misleading ,and overall success and the well-being of individual members are not mutually exclusive.Society is a constituency of individual citizens .And there is no such entity that exists independently above the millions of people that is called ？society？. A society must necessarily represents its citizens' interests.When people talk of overall success,they are intended to protect each individual citizens' interests.The Standard for a society of blooms must only be measured by the well-being of its individual citizens.
In sum,the former claim rests on an invalidated assumption.The society are instituted to protect the well-being of its individual citizens and no one is expendable.Once the well-being of individual citizens are realised,it is possible for the society to thrive.
