Last month, I took part in the model APEC contest. As a studnet from the engineering school,before deciding to participate, I was attrackted by its slogan: for the young leaders in China. Through the contest, I realized that the aim of this event was to select some potencial elites among the conllege students.However, what is the standards for young potencial leaders? Cooperation or competition or both ? I disagree that the quality of potencial leaders is mere the sense of group work or competition. In fact, I believe the two are equally important through the road to become a qualified young leader.
It is no wonder that the major path of becoming a leader is selection. From picking up a offical clerk to voting for a national political leader, the essence of getting leadership, no matter what form it is,varies little. Take the politcal leaders election as an example. The ration of leaders to ordinary people is very low, so that through competition with other candidates, a potencial leader can show the voters how wise it would be to vote for him. Since competition is a convention in the adult world, young people should prepare themsevles before they really involve in the games. Therefore, I think that the sense of competition is indispensible during the preparation of leadership .
After succeessful getting the leadership, what next should a fresh young leader keep in mind? Working with others, in my opinion, is the keystone of the success of the leader. As the Chinese traditional conviction, a hero cannot invade a town without the help of other solders. Leadership,.in another aspect, can be interpreted as the ability to arrange things and put every subordinate into fully use. As great empires in history has demostrated, the greatness of a invincible nation lies in that the co-work of the elites and the ordinary. Therefore,I do believe to become a qualified leader in the future,young person has to be cultivated under a sphere that accentuate the importance of coperation.
In retrospect, I find that a great leader,in mose historic cases, was a great combination of talented nature and hard work. I admit that even the concious cultivation of both competition and corperation does not prove to be effect in every case, and exception do exists. However, I believe that lacking the basic sense of leadership, a tallent young boy cannot be shaped as a effective leader any more than a pile of bricks cannot build a house without instruction and oderness. Thus, I do disagree with the claim that competition outweighs corperation or vice versa. Indeed,embracing the combiantion of the both ability is the key to a young leder's success.
