While solving immediate problems means immediate benefits, the anticipated problems of the future seems unreachable thus making no importance. So some may argue that instead of spending the limited social resources on solving the anticipated problems of the future, the government should focus on solving the immediate ones. However, this statement is sort-sighted. In my opinion, the government should focus on both immediate problems and anticipated problems of the future equally.
Immediate problems are closely associated with today's people.  For instance, unemployment is always a urgent issue for the society. When too many people are unemployed, the crime rate will increase sharply, which will lead to unstability in society, causing further panic. The environmental pollution is another immediate problem that government should focus on. In addtion, environmental pollution may cause various disease and make people live a hard life. In China, there are hundreds of people in rural areas diagnosed with cancer due to the water pollution. Therefore, the guvernment should solve the immediate problems properly, or they will bring out severe consequences.
However, the anticipated problems of the future are of no less importance. In fact, the anticipated problems will deeply influence our offspring. If they are not properly solved, they might bring up severer consequences. For example, the energy problem has drawn increasingly more attention. Although it not that urgent for the moment, several decades later, the energy resources may dry out. If no alternative energy is developed and widely used, wars between nations to grab the remaining resources will be inevitable. Moreover, global warming may also lead to a disaster in the future. With the average temperature increasing and the sea level arising, seaside areas including some big cities like New York will be overwhelmed. To avoid these horrible consequences, the government should have a long-term insight and focus on solving these potiental dangers.
Although solving the anticipated problems of the future will cost social resources, the potiential long-term benefits are imvaluable. It is necessary for the government to pay equal attention to both immediate problems and anticipated ones.
