The speaker contents that discovery and progress is made only through mistakes. I partly don’t agree with the contention, for two reasons. One is that mistakes are not the essential conditions to discovery and progress. The other is that without learning from the fallacy, the same mistakes would be made again, which makes no sense to proficiency and new points.
 Admittedly, many examples in different realms prove that mistakes sometimes lead to success. Scientists who devoted in researching work can finally get a content result by trials and errors. Businessmen eventually successfully win the leadership status after numberless failure and revival. It does reflect that some achievements are result from mistakes. However, it can’t prove the conclusion that mistakes are the indispensable factor for discovery and progress.
Firstly, not all progress and discovery is based on mistake. Mistake is not the only way to help people achieve goals, but just one of them. It is horrible to imagine that on the behind of each success included not at least one mistake. There should be many methods for making achievements as well. For instance, if someone wants to put forward a new view, he could analysis the former’s contribution and collect typical information, which is useful for his study. Therefore, the conclusion of previous study could be regarded as a foundation of his research. The advantage of this measure is that this person can learn from other’s experience and avoid mistakes that happened on predecessors.
Secondly, although some mistakes are inevitable, it does not mean that a person can have access to success with these errors. Not every mistake contains wisdom and solutions to question. We should accept that sometimes a mistake is just a meaning of doing wrong. Even if we give a comprehensive and detail analysis for the wrong, we can gain nothing. What’s more, once a fault happened, one that is without correction will never get a further step in his area. Especially that some kinds of faults is absolutely not allowed to make a second time. Take a massage in newspaper for example, a doctor, who is the attending physician for an operation, forgot a surgical scissors in a patient’s stomach. It is easily to imagine the result of the fault. If this doctor does not take his behavior serious, but makes the same mistake again, he would be regarded as a very dangerous person, let alone saying making improvement. So, it makes no sense, if without correcting errors.
 All in all, as stated above, the view that it is only through mistakes that discovery and true progress are made is not quite right. Although this consequence corresponds to some true instances, making mistake is neither sufficient condition nor the essential condition to advancement and discovery. Inevitably, we cannot ignore the importance of our attitude toward mistakes, only by a right one can we find the way to discover or progress through mistakes.
