The Industrial Revolution indicated the beginning of the age of machines, the time that machines replaced humans' hands as the predominant production way. In my opinion, the transformation from manual labour-based economy to machine-based manufacturing is unavoidable, because production in machines has many advantages than production by hands.
Firstly, machines can produce much more products during the same time. Consider making clothes. A skilled tailor must take 2 or 3 days to make a coat by hand, but if we make coats in a machine, it only takes less than one hour. And, consider the publishment of newspaper. In the past, workers must copies newspapers in white paper, printing ink and a board was carved words on one by one. It is not only a boring, time-conmusing but low-output work. Nowadays, with duplicating machines' help, we can get millions newspaper in a day as long as we put on a few buttons.
Secondly, the qualities of the products produced by machines have are more stable. People's work are easily affected by a lot of factors, such as moods, health conditions and so on. Compared with human being, these problems never exist to machines, which have fixed specifications and flows. For instance, it is hard to find out two dumplings which have the same weight and outlook in the dumplings made by your mother. However, on the contrary, the dumplings were sold in supermarkets always share everything in common because they are made by machines.
Thirdly, machines make production easier. With machines' help, we can easily do a lot of things which askd for various longtime trainings in the past. For example, in the past, if you want to draw a portrait of your friend as his birthday gift, most of us should pay for a professional painter to do it. But now, you can finish all things by yourself in 3 steps: first, choose a beautiful picture of your friend; second, buy a software in Apple Store and install it in your computer; finally, put the button which transform the picture to a portrait. No more than 5 minutes, you can get a perfect portrait, which is even better than some painters's work.
Admittedly, some productions still make by hands in order to keep their quality or style, such as LV's bags, Rolex's wrist watches and chairs in Cadillac car. But they cannot meet most of people's daily life need, and they often are very expensive. It is the productions made by machines, such as foods, clothes, houses, cars and so on, to support the great rapid development of the human society. We cannot live on without machines.
All in all, I think production in machine have more advantages than work by hand..
