Now, many species are endangered because of human activities. Someone consider we should protect them despite the expense of time, effort and financial well-being and others hold the opposite point of view. I fundamentally agree to protect endangered species at a great cost of time and jobs, when it is necessary.   Admittedly, under some circumstances, we should solute immediate social and financial issues which are critical for most citizens’ normal life first. If governments ignore immediate social and financial issues, its citizens may suffer from hunger or unemployment and their lives may be threatened. For example, many African countries are struggling in hunger and unemployment. Their citizens are likely to lose their lives because of hunger or diseases. To guarantee the survival of their citizens, the governments have to focus their efforts on solving those immediate issues and put protecting endangered species aside first.   However, under most normal circumstances, we should make efforts to protect plants and animals. As we all know, plants, animals and human beings constitute ecosystem together. The absence of any plant or animal will influence ecological balance which is essential for survival of humans. For example, in 1960's of China, government hunted a number of wolfs in the grasslands to provide a safer condition for sheep and goats. As a result, the number of sheep and goats increased rapidly and ate up the grasses, which resulted in desertification finally. Many local people had to move to other places.
  Finally, many species are contributing to the development of economy and industry. Just think about what you use and eat everyday which are made from plants or animals. Additionally, some animals are the symbols of nations, such as Bald Eagle, the symbol of America and Panda, the symbol of China. They make great contributions to cultural prosperity and international communication. Their existences are important for national cultural heritage. Nations should protect species like them for their citizens and their offspring.
  I concede that, under some special circumstances, nations and societies should deal with immediate problems first. But without other species, human can’t survive in the earth. To some extent, protecting endangered plants and animals from becoming extinct is always necessary and unavoidable. So I fundamentally agree with the speaker’s assertion.
