  The speaker asserts that educational institution should actively encourage their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers. In my point of view , however, I tend to disagree with the speaker. There are more abilities that universities need to teach students.
  Admittedly, by doing this, universities can lead their students to get good salaries or at least give them opportunities to learn about lucrative careers. For example, many universities and colleges established economics dipartment. The students whose major are economics or other similiar ones are likely to work in commercial banks or fund companies which offer a good salary. When the students graduate, many of them will choose to pursue lucrative careers, which is benefitial to their family and themselves.
  However, when increasing people choose to pursue lucrative careers, the competition in those fields will become more and more fierce. That will results in unemployment finally. And for the pursuit of lucrative careers, many students will give up their favorite major or their talents and enthusiasm in other fields. If they find they dislike what they are taught , they will become bored with it and disappointed. With passive spirits, they can't do well in their careers in the furture. In China, more than 60% college students dislike their major, they complain to their friends and parents who actually are unable to help them. And this phenomenon leads to serious social problems.
  Finally, universties and colleges should develop their students abilities including self-learning, communication and so on instead purely encourage them to choose lucrative careers and fields. The abilities are essential for them to live a happy life in society. For example, Jobs , the founder of Apple, choose a course called Calligraphy in colleges. Just in this course, he learned kinds of beautiful types of words. And many years later, when Apple began produce PC, he designed a software in which users could edit many nice types of words. The new PC helped Apple enhance its market and made it famouse. I think Jobs never think about this when he is young.

  I concede that by encouraging their students to choose fields of study that will prepare them for lucrative careers can offer more opportunitise to earn more money. But the action will also lead more porblems in students' studying and careers. So, the speaker's assertion is invalid to persuate me.
