Different age cause the different background creat the different ideal, religion, institution etc. Under such diversity enviroment, how big the difference among people in different time? I totally agree with the contention of the speaker that from the study of history people will find there is no significant distance between people who lived in any time of the history, and base on that it will bring a huge benefit to us.
The big difference between current and history people is their living backgroud which render their ambition, pursance and religion is totally different. Apart of it  the daily life, study and work changed a lot from the past. We do not use the smoke to transmit mesage any more,  the carrier-pigon lost their job lony time ago only as a pet keep in the owner's home, and the telephone is not as a luxury goods becoming the necessity to every home. All the change made by the advanced Technology make people's life unable to compare in the old time. However if we put those situation aside, in another words let us give up those hard conditon, and focus on the  soft condition, the inner part of the people, we may find it surprisingly similarity. The affection and desire root in every people's body, tne content may have change a lot but their exitence never disappear. Despite the span of life may exit discrepancy, the meaning for a human being is same---- We all want ot achieve the life goal through our whole life no matter it is become a leader of a group or the CEO in a company, the pursuit of heart is never changed. In that case, we should have a clear recognition towards history people that they do not like the environment having thus enormous different in today's world. They like us is the human being making life. chasing dream, owning merit and weakness and will finally die.
Accordingly, knowing this point will help us get a clear understanding of the thought, idea, feat and failure of a history people which will bring us a lot of advantages. The fetishist has became an serious problem in today's society. People always devote their affection and worship to a staff in an blind and excessive way without any objective analysis. Take the William Wallace for example. people's  worship towards him may maily stems from the moive braveheart. The realization of the similarity between people in different age help us chieve this point, we will not see those people as a god, and the idea, thought made by them will recieve more fair treatment. For us, they are not always the truth and cannot unable to overthrow any more. Those judgment will help us recognize the truth of a fact.
 At the same time, break down the illumination will help us solve the problem through the way poeple used before. Without any recognition of the similarity towards history people we may unable to believe their idea and thought will has the reference value. Whereas, if we get rid of the outside situation, we will find they have the same experience with us confronting some particular situation. In spite of the detailed situation is different, the form of prolem is same. Hence the history event, idea and thought provide us plentyful information to consuit. With the carefull analysis of the decision made by the history people may stimulate us find the right answer to the problem. Taking the history as mirror, before the ruler want to start a war to solve the problem please see the result recieving by it, the huge lose will follow behind and will aggreviate the problem.
