The speaker prefer a variety of courses outside the student’s field of study instead of a narrow curriculum. I agree insofar as a variety of courses will be a complement for student’s field of study, which will broaden the horizon of the students. At the same time, however , the students should have the rights to choice the extra courses that he will take. A variety of courses would pose certain problems, which might outweigh the benefits, noted above. First of all, extra courses would inevitably lead to a large number of assignments , which will gain mount of burden to one who was extremely interested in his major. He would choose to cut a class to do what he love. It’s obvious that extra courses were detrimental to them. Besides, who would be the final decision-maker that which course would be included or excluded? In all likelihood theses decisions would be in the hands of professors, who were also specialize in a narrow filed. How could they make a list of courses to fulfill the demand to give a overall view about all discipline. However, A variety of courses outside the student’s field of study will beneficial in a number of respects. First of all, by providing a variety of courses , a common courses would help ensure that students grew up to be reasonably informed , productive members of society. A supplement courses will ensure that all students get a comprehensive view about the society and personal function. Elective courses may explore the interests of students, subsequently, leading to their great success. Secondly, a variety of courses would facilitate the development of all aspects, as our society propose a high demand for our students. What is so called talent? A talent is absolutely not someone who merely special in his major. On the contrary, a talent in modern society should have good communicational skills, ability of critical thinking, speech ability, writing ability and so on. How can a student acquire all of this by his field of study? That’s impossible. Finally, the flexible courses provide a opportunity to who were not interested in his major. A freshmen often can’t make a advisable judge about his major. By taking extra courses, he could find his interest and make a decision about his future. Major courses might not allow for this feature, and students may fell frustrate in his major as a result of lack of interest in his major.          In the final analysis, exclusive professional education would amount to a double-edged sword. While it would serve as an insurance policy to guarantee in-deep study of one filed, at the same time it might serve to obliterated generalist. The optimal education approach, in my view, is a balanced one that imposes a basic curriculum yet leaves the room for students’ choice.
