Some people believe that college students should consider only their own talents and interests when choosing a field of study. Others believe that college students should base their choice of a field of study on the availability of jobs in that field.
What should students consider when they choose their majors?That will cause a discussion on importance of talents and interests and availability of jobs.Indeed,it is a complicated progress to choose majors which it synthesises a variety of facets.In such progress,what should be given priority is one's tanlents and interest,in the condition that availability will not be ignored.
The reasons why talents and interests should be given priority are three.Firstly,the true purpose of education is to help students find out what is most suitable for them and guide them step into a proper railway,in the end help them find a favorite job.If students give up their interests and talents in the start,then the main meaning of education loses its significance.A famous pianist,Zhouzhou,who is born with a lower intelligence quotient than normal people.However,his father did not send him to retarded school,but cultivate him by his own and found he was very interested in music.After years of education,he became a famous pianist and miracle in field of education.So,it is really of importance to find out one's real talent and interest.
Secondly,since career is a life-long affair,it is related to one's mental health.If a student choose a field that he do not like or is not good at,then during his college life,he has to struggle to overcome his natural weakness in such field.After college,he still has to face it all his life.Unless he find out its merit and become interested in the field,then facing a job that is not what he like is misfortune,even torture if he hates such field.
Last but not least,no one can assert for sure that the availability of a job will stay stable forever.Even experts can not assure the employment in a field will keep stable in a decade.Thus,it is adventurous to decide which field to study according to the availibility in the field,nor it is possible to anticipate it.It is likely that after four year's study,the job oppotunity hn a field have been fulled.For example,during 1998-2000,the hottest field is international trade and during that time,only students with the highest grades can enter such field.However,only three years later,there were overfully students in such field,and thousands of students had to face unemployment and changed major.
In the other hand,students should not totally ignore availibility of job.Take the example of the former case,if a student was really interested in international trade,considered the severe situation in the situation,it is proper for him to change another similar major.After all,the final objectivity of education is to get an appropriate job.No one would like to graduate with high pressure of unempolyment.
Besides,it is not the only the two terms students should consider when choose a major.Nowadays,computer knowledge,English,skills of communication are all essential to survival in society and get a proper job.
In a word,to select a major,which is most suitable for an individual,and will assure him a promissing career,it is not as simple as only consider one or two factors.Nothing can be done easily is perfect,so students should grasp both their interests ,talents and availibility of jobs in the field they choose,as well as other fundamental qualities.
