Some universities require students to take classes in many subjects. Other universities require students to specialize in one subject. Which is better? Some people argues that the former is better for the reason that students can broad their horizon, while other people insist that the latter one is better because the students can acquire a deeper knowledge than others. From my perspective, It is because the various subjects can not only broad our horizon but also let us think in different ways that I prefer the former.
We can benefit a lot from different classes, which means we can acquire all kinds of knowledge ranging from math to humanity. To be a omniscience people is of great important. Myself is a prime example of this. As for me, I'm a chemistry student in my college, however, I learned math, physics and economy in my optional classes. Thanks to these classes, when I came across a project which needed both chemistry and economy, I can deal with it smoothly. Hadn't had a understanding of economy, I can barely finish the project. One of the greatest advantages of taking classes in many subjects is that we can make different friends with various people. If you are faced with a difficult problem and have no idea what to do, you can ask your friends for help. Obviously, the more the friends you have, the more the solutions you may have when faced with problems. Friends are like walls. Sometimes you lean on them, but sometimes it's just enough to know they are there.
Although the advantages of taking classes in many subjects is so apparent, students who specialize in one subject can have a deeper understanding of their major. In some fields, these students is welcomed. Chemistry students present an interesting case for this. It is not enough for chemical students to just know the chemical reactions. They are required to understand the mechanisms of the reactions so that they can apply the reaction by different reagents.
To sum up, the advantages of taking classes in many subjects outweigh that of specializing in one subject.Nowadays, companies increasingly requires the people who have a widely command of different knowledge. Students take classes in many subjects can be more competitive that others. I advocate that students should take classes in many subjects rather than specialize in one subjects.
