一个社会的特征体现在方方面面，例如人们对待金钱的态度、人们互助的程度，人们尊崇的品质特征等等，每一个国家所折射出来的特征都是多样的，尤其是在当代，无法用一个人去涵盖全部。在古代特定的时间，文化的abundancy和diversity不像今天这样distinctive，也许还可以用一个人来代表。比如说汉代的中国，可以用董仲舒来来代表——尊儒尚法(advocate Confucianists and legalists)，君权神授（kings right derived from divinity）.或者60年代的美国用Rosa Parks 来代表——对民权的追求，对平等自由的向往。（或者18世纪末期的美国人用华盛顿来代表）
3. 英雄人物相对于其他人有什么共性和个性？一个社会是如何挑选自己的英雄人物？请结合具体人物或事件举例并简单分析。
回答：
英雄人物和社会中的普通百姓大部分是一样的，但是英雄人物在某种特质上表现得更突出——如拳王阿里的永不屈服（unyielding），Teresa的无私，以及rosa parks的勇敢。
4. 如果让你去接触一个陌生的社会，你会尝试从哪些方面去了解那个社会？从哪最容易获得信息？从哪得到的参考信息更多？从哪分析了解起来更容易？请结合具体事例简述。

在一定程度上同意这个观点，英雄人物也是社会中起到标志性作用的一部分，但是要了解一个社会并不能局限于英雄人物，因为这样的人毕竟是少数，要了解一个社会还可以从普通大众、历史、文化、政治、建筑等去全方位地了解。
诚然，一个社会的英雄人物代表了人们对美好品质的追求和向往，通过英雄人物我们可以看到社会的普遍追求。eg：Muhammad Ali 永不服输的精神鼓舞了在梦想路上前进的年轻人。Mother Teresa presented us a totally selfless figure who devoted herself into helping people in need without considering any personal reward. Rosa Parks, mother of the modern civil rights movement, reflected the pursuit of justice and impartiality by each people.
然而，英雄人物在一个社会中只是少数，heroes only take up a small segment of the whole society, which accordingly can not reflect the authentic characteristics completely.并不能完全展现一个社会的真实特征。英雄的优秀品质从一定程度上只是反映追求而不是现状。另外，英雄也是多面的，phelps，游泳健将，也吸大麻。
所以看一个社会最好还是融入到社会生活中，了解人们的日常生活和民俗，像社会学家和人类学家那样进行田野调查。或者是读历史，了解政治，观察建筑等等。这样会更全面
