No. Knowledge in other areas may still be useful, such as knowledge to communicate with different people, knowledge of basic laws and some other social objects. For example, if your major is psychology, and you turned to be a psychologist after graduation, you have to possess knowledge of specific laws, or you might break some law when you try to solve customers' psychological problems, which might put an end to your career.
Educational institutions should give students guidance to learn how to discover their own interests and stay curious about the world. As to help them discover their interests, the institutions should provide students opportunities to access to knowledge of different fields as best as they can. As to help them stay curious about the world, institutions should hire experts skilled at teaching and introducing, to make students learn the beauty of different disciplines.

作文
There has been a tendency of educational institutions to encourage students to pursue so-called "success" other than their interests or abilities when they are about to enter universities and choose their specialized fields. But I think this tendency is unfavorable and even possibly dangerous, because it could easily make students ignore their own interests and knowledge in other fields of study, both could be rather important.Students' own interests rather than "success" should be the first element to think about when they choose their fields of study, since interest is the best motivation to learn. Driven by his/her own interest, a student is more likely to put as much effort as he can into learning, derived from the thirst to fulfill one's curiosity. For example, Galileo was forced to study medicine science by his father's will, but it was physics that he truly interested in. As a result, we all know that he made a great success in physics other than medicine. With special success as a highly probable consequence of interest, it is ignoring the forest for the trees if educational institutions push students to pursue just so called "success" when choosing fields of study.Additionally, knowledge beside one's specialized field could be quite important to build a career. Pursuing success blindly in a particular field could easily lead to disregard of knowledge in other fields, which in turn may result in failures. Let's take a student learning psychology as an example. After graduation, the student turns to be a psychologist and  builds a career to solve people's psychological problems. If he/she has little knowledge of law, he/she might break some law when treating people, which will put an end to his/her career. That's the reason why students could not just focus on one's specific field and ignore any other knowledge outside this field, and why educational institutions should not dissuade students from pursuing a wide range of knowledge.Assuredly, it could not be underestimated of the importance of pursuing success in one's fields of study, for its motivational function to make the development of professional fields and even the whole society. However, focus should be placed in one's interests, and success would be a subsequent result. Instead of pursing nothing but so-called success, educational institutions should encourage students to stay curious about this world and its extremely rich knowledge, and make it as their main foothold for choosing fields of study.
