I basically agree with the statement that college faculty should have some experience on none-academic field based on their personal interest and teaching aims. Yet it is rather strict to require all teachers to do so. We should encourage them to try on practical field and also respect their personal choices.
 
It is common to see that many related works outside academic field contribute to the education of specific subjects, especially those that have a broad application area. Take computer science for example, what students are expected to master is far more than just computing theory, they are also required to have high researching and developing capability. A computer science teacher who has work experience on clinical medicine would gain varieties of knowledge on how computing theory can be applied under medical circumstances. He\she would also be familiarized with patients' reaction under different treatment procedure, therefore recognize how to design computer programs that work more effectively in purpose of diagnose, treatment, and even surgery. By telling students about his\her personal experience on such area, they would be able to posses deeper comprehension on the core of designing computer program--How to revise and perfect the program in order to meet people's needs.
 
Another example of how related work experience can influence teaching quality is social science. More often than not, a social science teach is required to cite different cases in order to accurately convey philosophy or political ideas to students. Yet if he\she has seldom involved in social activities and only know about history events, then this\her class would be boring. On the contrary, if the teacher is doing part-time work as a journalist, then he\she would be able to capture the newest and novel event in the society and referring to these thought-provoking events in class, then students would be more involved in class and thinking deeply about these issues.
 
However, we should not overlook the fact that there are some subject that mostly bond with theories only, such as astrophysics. Professors working on these area require quiet working environment and high concentration on their research and observation instead of social involvement. Usually, their train of thought is better to be continuous without distraction, so that they can capture there inspiration and make larger scientific contribution. Working on others related field would helps nothing but going against their researching desire. In these circumstances, we are supposed to respect their academic choice and provide peaceful working atmosphere to them.
 
In sum. Faculties who work on areas with high application value should be encouraged to spending time working outside their academic field, whereas those who pursue high researching concentrition should be provided with work environment without distraction.
