本题为老GRE的ISSUE73原题。题目讨论想象力和知识的重要性问题，是大家很熟悉内容。因为范围（在很多行业和学术领域）给的很宽松，所以无论是采用正面观点还是反面观点都有很多切入点，而且有很多相关的理论和事例可利用。分析的时候应当注意三点：
1、要尽量拓展开思路，不要仅仅局限于科学领域。把各个行业、领域或者其中有代表性的几个进行对比，这样有助于更全面的把握文章。
2、相互的对比很简单，想象力和知识本身就是相互依赖的两个内容，但不要仅仅给出“foundation”、“creative”等通俗解释后漏掉两者重要性的比较。
3、重要性的对比可以结合不同的需求来说，要言之有物，不说空话。

1. 在学术和专业领域想象力和知识各是什么角色？试分析一两个以下学术领域中的情况（ 历史、语言、文学、表演、哲学、宗教、建筑学、经济学、地理、政治、心理学、社会学、生命科学、化学、物理、电脑科学、数学、农业、经济、教育、工程、环境、法律、军事、传媒）
回答：
建筑学：知识是基本，每个建筑师几乎都有，不仅建筑师，画图员也都会；想象力是让方案脱颖而出的重要因素。
数学：前人的知识非常非常重要，后人的创造力是一方面，但如果没有前人的探索，有些东西根本无法解决。那些定义的提出甚至是很曲折的。
2. 如果只有知识而没有想象力会有什么后果？请举例并简述。
回答：
没有想象力就会失去创新的源动力，阻碍社会各方面的发展。知识是基础，只有知识只会停滞不前。类似于机器人，只会处理已知问题，而对突发事件缺乏应变能力。
3. 如果仅仅有想象力却不具备知识又会怎样？
回答：
仅仅有想象力可能会设想很多实际上并不可能存在的或者说违反了基本规则的东西，比如永动机。而如果不具备知识，人们也不可能发现哪些是对的，哪些是不可能实现的。
4. 应当如何去判断想象力与知识的重要性？能否找到衡量或者对比的标准？如果能，请举例并简述；如果不能，请说明原因。
回答：
我认为不能。因为这两个事物都太过抽象，没有办法量化或者对比。但唯一可以确定的是，在人类发展和进步的过程中，他们都起到了不可替代的作用。
5. 在哪些情况下想象力要比知识重要？在哪些情况下知识比想象力重要？请举例并简述。
回答：
比如说建筑学里，想象力就显得更加重要。而在比如说考古学中，知识就比想象力重要。

As Aristotle once said, imagination is the source of invention, discovery and creative activities. Indeed, our lives would never be so colorful without imagination sparked from us human beings. Yet another important function of our brain is the storage of knowledge, without which we can hardly know about ourselves nor the world we live in. Both these two characteristics are definitely crucial to mankind, and there seems to be no ways to compare the significance between them.
Unlike other things like language or intelligence, there's no universal criteria to evaluate whether imagination overweighs knowledge, or verse visa. When we're facing different problems, the importance varies. When we are told to prove a math axiom, we are encouraged to apply some innovative ways to solve it. While like repairing a computer, instead, nothing but your knowledge of the interior structure of the computer can help you identify the problem and finally tackle it.
The same goes with different professions. We might not expect any luxuriant imagination from an archaeologist, instead, we weigh knowledge of the ancient items or dynasties over imagination in archaeology. Because for them, recognizing the relics using historical knowledge means much more than sole imagination. Whereas lacking imagination would be a lethal weakness for a writer or a filmmaker since fantastic imagination and ideas are the souls and possess almost unparalleled situations in literature and movies. The famous series novel "Harry Potter" created by J.K.Rolling, depicted a would full of magic, adventure and crazy stuff that we have never had a vision of.
Moreover, imagination or knowledge alone is never sufficient to help mankind learn more about the world or change it. There are several times people claimed that they have invented the perpetual motion machine in history, which of course all turned out to be daydreams. If only they knew more about physics, these "groundbreaking" inventions may never have been invented. And my friend Jeremy, a student majoring in architecture, who had solid knowledge with poor imagination, finally failed to get himself a satisfactory job.
Thus, in certain conditions, or specific occupations, we can surely say that imagination is of much importance over knowledge. However, in most cases, imagination and knowledge serve equally, and lacking any of them will result in disastrous consequences.
