Should student bring a certain skeptical
point to whatever they study instead of accepting it passively? While this
claim, from my point of view, has considerable invalidity with respect to
common sense that people all around world accept, I take exception with the
claim when students are learning scientific knowledge or accepting
unsubstantiated information, as discussed below.

In the threshold point, I concede that the
author's statement is valid when facing some respect field such as science.
Setting as a role of impetus, skepticism pushes our scientific development
forward throughout the history. By arguing the free fall theory stated by
Aristotle, Galileo established his new theory which had a profound impact to
the world. Facing the seemingly untenable classic mechanics theory founded by
Sir Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, who is considered as the greatest scientist,
overturned it and opened the door of modern physics. These eminent above showed
us the meaning of being skeptic to whatever they study, which justifies the
speaker's claim.

On the other hand, when facing unfounded
information, students also need to keep an attitude of skepticism to judge
whether the information is tenable and credible. Consider the situation of a rumor
of earthquake in China.
People were told that there would be an earthquake in tomorrow morning in Changzhi, Shanxi
province and in that night, about ten thousands of citizens took out their
camps, sleeping on the city's road to evade the earthquake. However, when sun
comes out next morning, the rumor was broken. Had citizens have the sense of
questioning what the just heard from others, they would not suffer from
sleeping outside and interrupted city's traffic. In that case, the speaker's
statement is also correct.

However, there still exists some respect
points that we are obliging to accept without any doubt: the common sense such
as love, peace and democracy. For instance, will anyone consider fascism
justifiable? Maybe only fascists agree. What Hitler and his Nazi have done is
condemned by the whole world for they initiated the world war two that caused
enormous casualty. Consider that if our students show no skeptic points toward
the massacre of the Judaic people, the world may lost in blood and death.
Therefore, peace, altogether with other common senses, should be accepted by
everyone instinctly and spontaneously. In that case, the speaker's claim is
fairly merited.

In sum, though the speaker's statement is
compelling in some respect fields which show that skepticism plays as a role of
catalyst to have the society improved, the speaker overlooks others aspects in
which skeptic point may impede the happiness of the world. As I discussed
above, my opinion is that we should differentiate the certain situation before
deciding whether we should be skeptic towards the certain issue.
