Once we've arrived at a certain conclusion, we're often told to be persistent and intransigent in our own beliefs to savor the predicted truimph of our persistence. Although in certain cases, such an attitude would help us to overcome the indifference or even hostility encountered initially, in other circumstances, this intransigence resembles foolhardy and is detrimental.

We were taught since we were young that the lsat thing we could ever do to defend our success is to persist and believe in ourselves. Doubtlessly, we need to be in failth of ourselves in order to seize the fruit of success. Suppose that we're so easy to be ramshackled, and swift from one theory to another consistently, then it's obviously that we could never be able to achieve anything great, since those brilliant thought, once they've appeared, would slipped away due to our diffident. On the contrary,  individuals who choose to defend their arguments even when everyone else has turned against them may one day be able to persuade those dissenters and make a difference once for all. Actually, many of those great discoveries and profound revolutions were at first encountered countless skepcisms and misunderstandings. If those pioneers gave up their beliefs half the way and surrender to the main-stream tastes, then we could hardly make any advance and progress, but keep staying where we were, or even undergoes recession. Therefore, we should persist in our own beliefs no matter how disparate the situations are to embrace the light of intelligence.

However, it doesn't mean that we must not give up our own beliefs under no circumstances. If, for example, we've discovered that there're apparent flaws and fallacies inherent in our points of view, then a compromise or even abandonment of the original view would be both necessary and conducive to both ourselves as well as others. On the contrary, if we still choose to defend our erroneous modes of thought, then the devastating result would be self-evident. Even our beliefs are not completely wrong, adjustments and moderations are sometimes needed as well. No one is perfect, and so is our theory. There're bond to have inferiorities inherent in our beliefs. Thus, when the views of others could complement our beliefs to make for a more comprehensive one, we should never hesitate to modify our own.

In short, the assertion that it's more harmful to compromise our beliefs than to adhere to them is too arbitrary to be persuasive. Whether should we insist in our own beliefs depend on the validity and credibility of the sides we take. If we possess abundent evidence to justify our beliefs, then an adherence to the original one would be impeccable; but if the side we take is itself groundless and unconvincing, then an adjustment or even a complete abandonment of our views would be necessary.
