普通百姓的生活，收入以及素质更能反映一个国家的伟大程度。 民众相比较统治者艺术家和科学家来说数量众多，更能反映情况。少量的人也许会片面。然而，大量的民众存在差异，也有可能存在片面但可以取平均。
伟大的人哪个国家都有，不能最真实反映一个国家，但是从某个角度可以反映。

Indeed, many rulers, artists and scientists made great contribution in their fields respectively to their nation even the whole world which leads to a good life for the people of that nation. The greatness of the nation may be judged by the achievement of these people, however, this is not the most important surest indicator of a great nation. In my opinion, the living standard of the civilians is more convincing for the greatness of the nation.
Undoubtedly, the achievements of the great people ensure a good life for the majority of the people of the nation. The works of the artists, scientists and rulers decides the spiritual life, material life and the total living standard of the common people. Taking the United Kingdom as an example, James Watt, who was born is Glasgow Scotland, invented the first steam engine and improved it which headed the UK into the industrial age and made the his country the most powerful nation at that time. During the same time, the people of this nation were lead into a better life due to the steam engine.
However, the point of view of this issue is inadequate. Napoleon, who is called the miracle creator, made great achievements to become an outstanding politician and a strategist. However, the people who lived under his control, were suffered from a long-term war. Therefore, not all the achievements of the great people can be the surest indicator for the greatness of the nation.
As far as I am concerned, the living standard of the common people itself is more convincing when judging a nation's greatness. This includes the income, quality and other aspects. Compared to the great people, the civilians account for a large portion of the total people in the nation which are, therefore, more representative to become the indicator.
Although there will be some discrepancies among the common people, the average value of the civilians can be a more suitable surest indicator of a great nation.
