There are more and more choices for modern people spending their spare time. Except for doing sport, taking part into parties, reading and so on, watching various performances is one of the most popular choices. You can attend a live performance or watch TV at home. But, which is better? For me, I prefer a live show.
Firstly, live performances have better ambiences. There are various important factors to create a successful performance, not only actors, but also music, light and acclaims and applauds of audiences. This year, I attended a vocal concert. A number of famous singers sang their best songs which they are well known for. In fact, I had already seen them and listened their songs through internet and TV for thousands times. But, when I heard the familiar music came out with shining light and people's acclaim around me, I felt so shock that sang with them. I never get this kind of mood comes from everything in the live performance when I watch TV at home.
Secondly, you can see a whole performance through watching a live performance. In fact, when you watch TV, you're using editors' eyes to watch and what you're watching is what editors are watching, but not you want to watch. For example. I watched the opening ceremony of the 2008 Olympic Games on TV. I thought it was just so so, by contrast, my friends who attended the live performance consider it was 'a great performance'. Then I watched all kinds of videos which were from other countries' TV, I found the performance was very good, but if you watched it on TV, you had to see some scenes through the editors choose.
Thirdly, it is more possible to appreciate a whole performance without any disturbers when you attend a live performance. Without any doubt, the biggest disturber when you are watching TV is non-stop advertisements. Especially in China, the frequency is high and the duration is long. Last time, I wanted to watch an opera on TV, a shampoo advertisement and a socks advertisement interrupted nearly every 5 minutes. At last, I was not clear about the story , but I'm sure I wouldn't buy the kind of shampoo and socks forever.
Admittedly, attending a live performance does have some drawbacks. For instance, tickets are expensive, transportation may be not convenient, the time may be not available for you. However, we won't to watch live performances everyday. As long as we choose favourate performances to watch according ourselves time, money, interest and other situations, to attend a live performance is a better choice.
