Before the early 20th century, both western and eastern countries had a large mount of family business, in which apprentices or children in the family could just choose the jobs similar to their parents. However, with the fast development of society and the rapid change of the concept of choosing jobs, children need no longer to live the same life that their parents have lived, and are able to do what they really like. Under this situation, I definitely disagree with the statement mentioned above, and back up the opinion that it is better for children to select jobs they expect to do.
To begin with, it is better for children to choose jobs according to their dispositions and preference rather than the same like their parents' work. Actually, different people possess different characters, as a result, their preference varies correspondingly. Sometimes, even twins have different dispositions, let along children and their parents. So children with different preference can have their own choices for jobs that may be totally different from their parents'. On the other hand, pushing children to do what is against their characters will bring them stress and suffering.
In addition, it is better for children to devote themselves to occupations that have a tight connection with their education backgrounds. Nowadays, professional education whatever it is a university or a  professional school will teach students a specific expertise, which allows them to work in the relevant field that may different form their parents'. Also, with various major backgrounds, children can form different thinking modes, which forces them to do different jobs from their parents' as well. For example, my uncle who is an art reviewer works in a publishing house, and his son that graduated from a engineering college is doing a quite different job comparing with his.
As a final point, as parents, it is better for them to learn how to respect the choices of their children on job choosing. Our society has been changing since the industry revolution, and most families do not have their private business any more. It is no need for parents to force their children to look after the family business like before. At the same time, education has been undertook by the government to a great extent across the world rather than the family, which contributes to people's free choices on jobs. Parents should change their mind to respect their children's preference, bringing them more freedom and happiness, instead of arranging children's future as their plans.
To conclude, although there are some advantages for children to go into the same field as their parents', such as getting a more extensive social relationships and better working experience thus contributing their future, it is better for children to choose jobs according to their own preference.
