The judgment of a country can be made from different aspects,the GDP，military degree, international competetence ets. But what is the surest indicator of a great nation. I basically agree witht the contention of the speaker that compare to the achievement in arts, rules or scientist, the general warefare of people can better represent.
Before we start to discuss, we should fitst figure out the meaning of great nation. A truly great nation the life of people is abundant. As the carrier of  a country, the qualification of people's life represent the inner powerfull. Among it, the warefare of people can be effectivelly judged. The warefare come from the finance income of a country, the more complete kinds for warefares, the more funds a country should invest. In that case only for those coutries which have resolved the basic social problem can have the ability to improve  the warefare system. Hence the ecomomy or distinction between poverty and wealth  is not a problem for such countries any more, they care more about how to guarantee the needs of their residents satisfied. Switish one of the highist warefare countries in the world, people live here from birth to die will enjoy the social benefit. Even an unemployee is never need to worry about their life, the warefare ensure them not to suffere a misery life. The life of a people embody the development of a coutry, for those undeveloped country, the majority part of the income is stilll used to solve the poverty, food and other foundamental problems which is not the representation of a great nation. On the other hand we should also see the point that the switsh is also the country has the highest suiside rate. People cannot find their value is believing they are the people castin off by the society for even lose a job they still can live a life. Hence the warefare may more or less lose the dication meaning for the greatness of a country. Because the happiness of a country also as another important stander measure the greatness level.
Another indicator that also represent the greatness of a country is the development level of politic, arts and scientce. Ameirca one of the greatest countries in the present world without the highest benefits but surpassing the switsh become the number one of the world. Apart from the highest GDP in the world, America is also the country with the majority winners of Nobel in science, arts and other field. It is also the country has a farily complete politic system and institution. As another way to wtight a country, the achievement in rule, arts and science can minnor the strength of a country. Similarity to the warefare those things may only be highly developed only when people's life is ensured. Otherwise the investment of a goverment may maily used in solving those social consliction. The present financial crisis lead the rate of  job-losing break the highest levle in 25 years. The goverment have to cut the budget in the reserach of NASN. Thus, the countries greatness more or less has a relationship with the achievement in those fields. The existence is the first condition for a human being to be satisfied, and the appearance of talent is base on it. The former is the necessarry condition a great nation should be equipeed, and the later can be sawed its specific representation. In tang dynasy China is one of the greatist countries in the world, and it is at that time the achivement in arts is unprecedented prosperous. Without the basic foundation of material, people's spitit is unable to develope.
Synthesis the idea mentioned above, in my opinnion the warefare or the ahiviement all cannot be seen the surest indicator. The comprehensive measure is needed. The sysethesized judgment of  a country is vital and necesary. A great country can be reflected from many aspects, the sigular stander may lead a objective point of view. The truly greatness country may not have the greatest achievement in arts, rules and science. And it also does not have a highly development warefare system. In that case people should judge a country from a comorehensive view. The achievement and warefare only as the two respective aspects reflect the one side of a country.
