Questioning the authority could be the necessary support to well-being of our society; furthermore, in the manifestation of its positive effects on speech freedom, it might be one of basic elements of democracy. A well-being society depends upon the interplay between, on the one hand material prosperity, on the other hand the freedom of mind. Both of them require people to question the authority. Firstly, the authority should be constricted to forbid the abuse of its power. As a common sense that the authority is much powerful than the individual citizen. Without the right to question the authority, it would be insurmountable to protect us from being violated by powerful authority. The most dramatic example was Hitler, who suppressed all criticism of him as soon as he gained power. Unfortunately, he succeeded. From the case of World War II, it can be concluded that the cost of losing the right to question the authority is prohibitively high, and the difficulties to regain the right were insurmountable without abysmal struggle. Therefore, we must be cautious on this situation that the authority black out criticism. Furthermore, we should encourage more people to have a critical thinking about the authority, such as governments. S Secondly, it sounds reasonable at first thought that authority decreases its credibility after being questioned. This attitude can not stand scrutiny. The first problem is that how can the authority keep its credibility, by banning questioning on itself?
