In this era of rapid social and technological changes,which tend to have the overall effect of making life more complex, the authority which guided the populace in the past may become out of step with current thinking and circumstances.Authority which keeps pace with the changing times can promote the development of society's well-being.Daring to question authority is one of the ways by which science progresses,Watson and Click challenged the theory that protein is the central genetic material and proposed DNA Double Helix Model which heralded the birth of modecular biology.If they didn't have enough encourage to challenge the widely accepted, and therefore authoritative, protein theory, how would we now be able to enjoy the benefits of research into molecular biology, which has found so many cures for diseases and led to development of many medicines which benefit our society.    In social life, challenging political authority forces politicians and governments to be more democratic, efficient, responsible and honest.Government and authority are meant to represent the benefits of its people and to work for them.So people have the freedom and responsibility to question the work of government if they think their work is not suitable.Such appropriate questioning of authority in the form of government and elected officials can lead to greater accountability,efficiency and better quality decisions in general.    However, questioning authority for its own sake can  have negative affects.People who want to queation authority should consider whether their questioning has considered the well-being of the whole of society or is it just intended for personal benefit before they propose the question. Those in positions of authority should also need to consider the questions from the perspective of the well-being of the whole society.Governmental authority should keep in mind at all times that it represents the benefit of the whole society and people; any reckless dicision which ignores questions from his people may cause disaster not only for his positon but ,far worse, the well-being of society.     Thus, I am in general agreement that authority is questioned and the well-being of society is enhanced.Indeed, advances in goverment and law depend on challenges to the status quo.Nevertheless, to ensure a net benefit rather than harm, the means of such challenges must be peaceful ones.
