It is beyond question that educational institutions play a significant role in students' growth and development.Whether they have a responsibility to dissuade students from pursuing fields of study in which they are unlikely to succeed is under disscusion. As far as I'm concerned,it is by giving oppotune recommendations rather than  dissuasion from doing something or forcing them to do something ,that the educational institutions best prepare yonng men for the future work.
One reason for my viewpoint is that there are plenty of factors contributing to the success of a profession and several aspects should be taken into consideration, say,a person's IQ,his intelligent quotient determines whether he can achieve himself in the field of high technoloy or high-IQ-need subjects like math and physics.Personality is another key factor. And recently the personality analysis examination for career increasingly prospers. For example,a very outgoing man who prefers to communicate with others is not likely to perform well in a laboratory research.Additionally, interest plays a part as well as talent. If a boy immensed in basketball wihout a sufficient height, plenty of skills or muscular body, how can he make a living as a professional basketball player? So educators do need to provide proper advices for students to find themselves for future career.
However, some colleges throw too much weight on how to be successful. The current education is criticized to be too utilitarian.Students choose a major not out of their inner desire but for monetary reason or ease to be employed. The problem is that, many youngsters don't have a well developed values towards what is success.Overly emphasis on how to get a promising career, which job is well-paid leads a deflected direction for students. It's quite probable that a guy have no interest and motivation towards a major at all when he set about to study, however, changing a major is sometimes hard in colleges. So providing students a value system seems an optimun option.
Besides professional knowledge and major skills, college students require much more for further development. As advances in technology continue to accelerate, specific knowledge needed for jobs will change more and more quickly. Thus it will be a waste for educators to focus on specific knowledge and job skills might soon become obsolete-at the expense of teaching values. As reflected in a survey, less students make a living by the major he took in the college.Apparently, skills such as independent thinking, communication are of vital significance. Moreover,as students grow into working  adults, practicing the basic skills and values of respect and fairness serves them  well in their jobs.At the work place these skills manifest themselves in a worker's ability to cooperate, compromise, understand various viewpoints. This ability cannot help but serve any worker's career goals,as well as enhancing overall workplace productivity.
In sum, only when educators help students instill valid and benefical values do young people grow into successful working adults.Educational institutions should equip students with a moral compass and ballast to prevent them from being tossed about aimlessly in a turbulent vocational sea.
