本题为老GRE的ISSUE73原题。题目讨论想象力和知识的重要性问题，是大家很熟悉内容。因为范围（在很多行业和学术领域）给的很宽松，所以无论是采用正面观点还是反面观点都有很多切入点，而且有很多相关的理论和事例可利用。分析的时候应当注意三点：
1、要尽量拓展开思路，不要仅仅局限于科学领域。把各个行业、领域或者其中有代表性的几个进行对比，这样有助于更全面的把握文章。
2、相互的对比很简单，想象力和知识本身就是相互依赖的两个内容，但不要仅仅给出“foundation”、“creative”等通俗解释后漏掉两者重要性的比较。
3、重要性的对比可以结合不同的需求来说，要言之有物，不说空话。

1. 在学术和专业领域想象力和知识各是什么角色？试分析一两个以下学术领域中的情况（ 历史、语言、文学、表演、哲学、宗教、建筑学、经济学、地理、政治、心理学、社会学、生命科学、化学、物理、电脑科学、数学、农业、经济、教育、工程、环境、法律、军事、传媒）
回答：
文学：想象力是翅膀，作家可以走多远大多取决于他的想象力而非他对各种语言的精通程度。有很多未受过教育的作家留名青史。然而知识又是必不可少的，否则无法表述自己的思想。
数学：想象力是基于知识的，再没有足够的知识储备之前，根本无法凭直觉对一些问题做出修正或改善。而想象力又是跟知识相辅相成的，充分的想象力有助于知识的理解。
2. 如果只有知识而没有想象力会有什么后果？请举例并简述。
回答：
如文学或艺术，只有知识而没有想象力的作家往往只能模仿别人的作品，及时技术再精湛，也不过是修饰，而非创作。而在如数学等基础学科中，只有知识而没有想象力的人就只会做题，而在研究领域往往没有什么成绩。
3. 如果仅仅有想象力却不具备知识又会怎样？
回答：
想象力将得不到充分的发挥，好比一个人空有100万的支票，却无法兑现。以文学为例，想象力能让我们构思出excellent的故事，然而不具备充分表述这个故事的技能，我们只能写出平谈无奇的故事。

In most professions and academic fields, imagination is more important than knowledge.
Wether imagination is of much more significance than knowledge in most professions and academic fields? As far as I'm concerned, it depends. In the fields like literature and art, it seems right. However, without some sufficient skills, authors and artists can't express fully their imagination. In the fields like mathematics and physics, imagination is inspired from basic knowledge rather than one's talent.
Have everyone ever heard of a famous author gains his or her reputaion by imitating other people's work and just improving the way to express? Of course not. Literature is so beautiful because it always creates new things. Altough people may use the same words, they can express different opinions. There are many successful authors who haven't received any formal education and can't use sophisicated skills like those educated anthors do, but they are imaginative. Their imagination decides how far they can go to a large extent. So, in this field, imagination is absolutely more important than knowledge. However, basic knowledge is also needed, without which these authors can not fully express their ideas. It's just like a people with a million dollars' check but cannot spend it science every bank refuse to cash the check.
However, in the fields like math, imagination is important as well as knowledge. They depend on each other. Without imagination, one can not fully understand and totally remember those abstract theories; without basic knowledge, one can imagine nothing but utopian ideas. For instance, in Geometric Analysis, researchers always study the curvature flow to get better understanding of the properties of a manifold. We can't imagine how to solve such problems without the basic knowledge of curvature and partial differential equaiton.
All in all, in some fields that creativity is of great significance, imagination is more important, while in some fields like math and physics, imagination and knowledge have a strong relation, they depend on each other, no one is more important than another.
