The populatity of pseudoscience and quack medicine in the nineteenth century suggests that people were very credulous, but the gullibility of the public today makes citizens of yesterday look like hard-nosed skeptics. From my point of view, the nonmainstream science, including astrology and alchemy, play the important role in the early human society. However, the mainstream science couldnot be supplanted and replaced because it could genuinely promote the developmentof our society evenif the nonmainstream science could satisfy people's dream that people couldnot realize.
In the early human life, people could confront a large number of problems that cannot be solved and some phenomena could not be explained by contemporary scientific and technology , people may be attempt to solve these problems and explain the extraordinary problems by makeing full use of the nonmainstream science , such as astrology, fortunetelling, alchemy, and pychic and paranormal pursuits.
perhaps the best know field of stronomical pseudo-science is the ancient idea that the position ot the sun, Moon, and planets at the move ment we are born somehow affects our subsequent personanlity, career, or love-life, so people could predict the future of persons and even country according to the astrology, In the nineteenth century the pseudosience and astrology is very popular contemporary people place much emphasis on them because they can predict and foretell the future events by the movement of the celestial body.
